MP Candidates

Meet the candidates Middlesbrough Liberal Democrats are fielding at the next general election, offering the real change local people need.

Mohammed Waqas

Middlesbrough and Thornaby East constituency

Mohammed Waqas is the Lib Dem candidate for Middlesbrough and Thornaby East.

Mo lives locally on Teesside, living in Stockton where he also works in the social care sector. He has a range of experience, having previously been employed as a prison officer and having worked in customer service.

Mo said: "It's an honour to be picked to be the local Lib Dem candidate for Middlesbrough and Thornaby East for the next General Election. Local people in Middlesbrough and Thornaby deserve an MP focussed with on our communitie, not one who is too busy with political games in Westminster."

The constituency covers the areas of Acklam, Beechwood, Berwick Hills, Brambles Farm, Brookfield, Gresham, Grove Hill, Linthorpe, Longlands, North Ormesby, Pallister Park, Saltersgill, Thorntree, the Town Centre, Whinney Banks and West Lane, as well as parts of Thornaby.

Jemma Joy

Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland

Jemma Joy is the Lib Dem candidate for Middlesbrough South and East Cleveland.

She lives locally in Guisborough with her family, and serves as a local councillor for Guisborough's Hutton ward.

Jemma said: “It’s a great honour to have this opportunity to stand to represent the people of Middlesbrough, Guisborough, Loftus, Skelton and the villages."

“Ours is a beautiful, diverse area and I love living here. But we do not always get our fair share of council and Government funding. If elected I will work to ensure that our area gets a fair deal from whatever Government is in power after the election.”

The constituency covers the communities of Coulby Newham, Easterside, Hemlington, Marton, Netherfields, Nunthorpe, Ormesby, Park End, Priestfields, Stainton and Thornton, and also covers Guisborough, Loftus, Skelton and the surrounding villages in the Redcar and Cleveland Council area.
